Clay-Cherokee-Counties

Carol Reid

  • NCBS County Coordinator since May 2002
  • NCBS Member since May 2002

Carol serves Clay and Cherokee counties for the North Carolina Bluebird Society. Having been raised in a family of birders, traveling the country to add birds to their Life List, she was naturally drawn to the efforts of NCBS.

Carol and her husband, Ed, take great pleasure monitoring fifty nest boxes along the trail in Brasstown village. Visitors to John C. Campbell Folk School often join in to learn about monitoring. Ed makes cedar nest boxes in his shop, Hill Gallery and Working Studios LLC, in Brasstown. Additional bluebird trails have been built in Murphy and Hayesville with the support of community members.

Carol loves to share bluebird conservation lessons. Porch seminars are held throughout the year in Brasstown for those interested in learning more about birding. Her forty years as an educator in Cherokee County Schools and present part time EC teaching at The Learning Center! in Murphy help her “teach” the joys of bluebirding.

A big shout out to Carol for all her strong dedication to bluebird conservation and for handling two North Carolina counties  with NCBS.
